I presented to 200+ job seekers at the National College of Ireland this morning, as part of their annual Career Bootcamp. The subject was “Get Creative & Get Hired”. I’d like to thank Robert and Emma for asking me to participate in this worthwhile event.
The key objectives of the talk …
– To help job seekers accept the job market has changed. To help job seekers accept the job search strategies must change.
– To help inspire creativity in the job search.
– To outline creative strategies for targeting the advertised and unadvertised job markets.
– To talk for 1hr and 45 minutes without discussing CVs 🙂
I would like to thank all of the people who attended the event today. I had fun doing it, and hope you all took something away. Now – put this into action!! I thought the talk went well – did you?
Feel free to post your feedback and comments ….

Hi Paul, thanks again for speaking today as part of Career Boot Camp; we really appreciate your time and the feedback has been great. I will be following the comments here with interest and look forward to hearing how attendees found the day and what they took away from it. Here’s hoping we hear some good news stories soon about people successfully using their new skills to get back into the job market.
Hi Emma
You’re very welcome.
Glad to be part of this worthwhile event. Thanks again for the invite to talk.

Hi Paul,
I just wanted to let you know that I got a lot out of your workshop today and it was a relief not to talk about c.vs and more about how to use social networking to meet prospective employers as well as other ideas on getting noticed by hiring managers and companies. I will certainly try and get more connections as well as join your group on LinkedIn. Thank you again.
Hi Paul, I really enjoyed your presentation today. All the points you raised were extremely valid and very poignant for today’s competitive jobs market.
As someone who actively uses social media you presented some nice tips and certainly made me question and introspect on my online presence and “brand” which I feel adds so much value not only to recruiters but to prospective employers. It is a case of “differentiate or die” and I am sure that you have inspired many of today’s attendees to rethink their strategy.
I felt that this alone is an amazing takeaway for everyone.
Sincerely, Neil.
Liat/Neil
Thanks for the great comments and glad you both enjoyed the talk.
The key today was to take the focus away from the CV and inspire movement towards other job search strategies. This includes online and the other offline approaches outlined.
Best of luck with the job search!!

Hi Paul,
Thank you for all the information and insights you shared thismorning. It was a very valuable session for me. As a graduate, I could relate to what you called the ‘M50 of the job market’ and I look forward to taking a new and more creative approach from here! Thanks..
Hi Paul, I really enjoyed today’s presentation and found it very interesting and worthwhile. I have not used social networking before for job searching but will definitely start now. It seems to be the way to go. (I wont give up on the other ways just yet either though.) Thanks for your other suggestions too.

Hi Paul,
It was very good meeting you yesterday. Thanks for a great presentation on how to break out of the job hunting loop, nice tips on how to get noticed (I especially liked the crumpled up cover letter) and great Real World Marketing videos – I think that’s the way to go, dare to be a little different and take some risks, when you think about it: what’s the worst that could happen?
Speak to you soon,
Julie
Paul just wanted to congratulate you on your presentation yesterday at the bootcamp in the NCI. It was extremely insightful, thought provoking and confirmed things I might have know but was not doing!
Thanks again Jim
Paul,
Many thanks for your presentation and all your help with NCI’s Career Boot Camp. In talking to the attendees it is clear that they all got a lot out of the session. Boot Camp wouldn’t work without the terrific support we have received from the likes of yourself. Best wishes Robert Ward

Thank you once again for your inspirational comments and advice.
I found your presentation excellent and insightful – it reinforced my view of how I should be spending my time.
I also have never met someone so passionate about what they do and that was so evident in your presentation.
Having received advice and career coaching from Paul in the past I highly recommend Paul’s approach to job searching. Paul is a true professional in every sense of the word.

Hi Paul,
I just wanted to say I found your talk extremely interesting, helpful and entertaining too…
From the “obvious” suggestions to overcome fear and shame to make direct contact with hriring managers, HR, etc., to the less obvious and more creative tips regarding visibility enhancement, everything in the session provided me with precious, “tasty” food for thought 😉
Thanks
Hi Paul, thanks again for the very informative, and entertaining talk on Tuesday.
One of the points that stood out for me was that of the “low lying fruit”. This has highlighted that one needs to be more creative to tap into other potential opportunities. I will be adopting a more proactive approach going forward.
Thanks for your previously mentioned tips.
Best of luck for the future
Shane

It was certainly an “eye opener” for social network virgin like me! Thank you. Your colourful interaction and professional outlook helped to cristalise thoughts in my head and establish clearer vision. Also thank you for taking time and talking things through and answering all of my questions!
